He or she acts as the pivot for the transmission of intellectual traditions and technical skills from generation to generation and helps to keep the lamp of civilization burning’.
Teacher training today has become immensely challenging owing to the incredible explosion of knowledge. There seems to be new challenges cropping up almost every day in the educational field.
The world of education is changing so rapidly that there is an urgent need to improve the skills and competencies of every teacher and make him/her more professional in the way he/she approaches education, imparts knowledge and influences students.
Kothari Commission (1964-66) remarked, “A sound programme of professional education of teachers is essential for the qualitative improvement of education”. The urgency of training teachers has become more critical today than ever. Teacher training is a sine qua non in the professional development of the teacher.
The qualities that determine professionalism in a teacher are competence, performance and conduct. In the words of Henry Adams – “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops”.
Inspired and guided by the moral and educational philosophy of St John Bosco, Don Bosco College of Teacher Education (DBCTE), Tura envisions generations of in-service and pre-service teachers qualified and motivated to impart quality education at the secondary and higher secondary levels. Don Bosco’s principles of education – based on reason, religion and kindness – will guide the training programme.
The Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) Programme of DBCTE aims at developing the understanding and competencies required by teacher-trainees for effective teaching-learning process at the secondary stage.
It enables in-service and pre-service teachers to select and organise learning experiences according to the requirements of today’s learners. In addition, it provides knowledge and develops in them an understanding of areas such as student psychology, guidance and counselling, educational evaluation, educational technology, school management, etc.
